By now, you all know about my love for union suits, which is why I intend to keep an eye out for worthwhile options for the coming cold (hooray).
OAK NYC is one of those brands that stresses a monochromatic, laissez faire aesthetic and given the interest in all shades black, it was only a matter of time before a suitable contrast made its way into the fall fashion fold. But white? Are we not meant to pack up our summer whites until the next heat wave? Are we doing a disservice to mother fashion? I say screw mother fashion, because this union suit is all kinds of amazing. Made from 100% cotton jersey, this suit boasts snap closures with a subtle dropped crotch – keeping it fashionable, but retaining the nostalgia. Oak lists this item as the perfect “layering” piece and I couldn’t agree more. You can pre-order it now (and it is currently on sale for $97.60)!
The perfect topper for this look is something with a bit more weight. Anything too fitted on top would introduce a pajama aesthetic, which is not what you should be going for. You want to incorporate underwear as outerwear in a very unified way. Underwear as underwear is not fashionable.
My solution? A great jacket.
OAK has a great black hooded parka with sherpa lining and leather trim that complements the stark white of the union suit. The parka is true-fit, so you will have to size up to get the same oversized look as the model photographed above, which is exactly what you’ll need to do to achieve the perfect balance.
A great split hood is the defining feature of the jacket. It adds a bit of interest without too many bells and whistles. It is the detailing and variety of wear that sets this jacket apart from a ubiquitous Canada Goose down-filled jacket. Seriously folks, as a Canadian, I am familiar with the plight of a frost-bitten winter, but there are better ways to live than wearing a logo emblazoned puffer coat. OAK NYC offers you an option – for me, it really is the option. I am lusting after this jacket. It is available for pre-order now for $458 and all items purchased for pre-order should ship no later than October 15, 2010.
